Dear Families
Over the weekend the Prime Minister announced a National Day of Mourning for Her Majesty the Queen Elizabeth 11 to be held next Thursday 22 July. We pay tribute to Her Majesty the Queen and recognise her commitment to her country the Commonwealth and the 14 other countries where she was also head of State. We thank her for providing us with extraordinary examples of selflessness, service, dignity and courage. Rest in Peace your Majesty!
Next week teachers will be conducting Learning Conversations and will contact you via the 'phone to discuss your child’s progress, application to learning and wellbeing.
Next term our school will undergo the School Review Process our last School Review was in 2017. The Department of Education regularly reviews all Tasmanian Government Schools. The Reviews are an important part of how the department supports each school. These Reviews are about providing schools with quality and independent feedback to help them continue to improve the learning outcomes for all students. Our Review will be held next term in Week 5 (November 14 and 15). The reviewers will be in our school to look closely at our school performance data and will speak with staff, students, parents and the community. Reviews are structured around a small number of lines of inquiry which have been agreed upon by the Review Chair, the Principal and relevant Learning Services and School Improvement Team staff. The Review team will provide the school with a report summarising their findings and recommended improvement strategies to maximise student outcomes. This information will be shared with the wider school community at the conclusion of the School Review. Attached is an article explaining the review and a return to school notice if you do NOT wish your child to be interviewed by External School Review panel.
Carolyn Brown, Principal
When we were in deep winter, the 5/6 first looked at ice. We explored how to get a grip on it by designing shoe soles
that had enough friction to withstand an icy slope without slipping. We also examined how to accelerate ice melting by
using salt. For the second part of this term we have been investigating volcanoes and experimenting with viscosity by
modelling how lava flows. Look at our stunning volcanoes and our rather sticky lava flow models.
Lava with high viscosity moves slowly. Ethan is experimenting with his medium viscosity model of lava. The low
viscosity model shows quickly spreading lava. The viscosity of the lava determines the shape of the volcano formed.
Commemorating Queen Elizabeth II
Our whole school community were saddened by the passing of Queen Elizabeth II last week. Students across the school were all remembering and talking about the Queen. Our Kindergarten children celebrated her life by making King and Queen crowns and did a parade in Prep/1 practising their royal waves.
BGH Breakers is a new netball team to join the Southern Tasmanian Netball Association winter roster. We are lucky to have current and former students from our school playing and representing this team.
This is the first year the team has played together and the first-time playing netball for many of the students. The team have had an amazing season winning 12 out of 16 games and finishing second on the ladder giving them the opportunity to play in the finals.
The team played in the semi-final and won by 1 goal sending them straight through to the grand final. The grand final will be played this Saturday September 17 at Hobart Netball and Sports Centre.
This is such an amazing opportunity for our students, and we wish them luck in the final.
Thank you to all our families for supporting our Pevan and Sarah chocolate fundraising drive.
Chocolates have been selling very fast, with very limited stock available. The remaining chocolates are available for purchase from the office.
