End of Term Reflections
As the term draws to a close, it’s hard to believe how quickly time has flown! It has been a busy and rewarding few months, filled with achievements, community spirit, and plenty of learning.
A highlight of the past week was the Inter-School Carnival, where our students gave their all, securing an impressive second place! Beyond the competition, the day was filled with teamwork, determination, and memories that will be cherished for years to come. A huge thank you to our staff, students, and volunteers who made this event such a success.
We also held our Annual General Meeting (AGM) for the School Association, where we welcomed our newly elected committee members. Congratulations to:
Dani Stevens – Committee Chair
Peta Kemp – Committee Treasurer
Bianca Shearing – Committee Member
We appreciate their dedication to supporting our school, and we encourage our community to reach out if there are any topics you’d like to see added to the agenda for our next meeting.
Wishing all our families a safe and restful break. We look forward to another exciting term ahead!
Warm regards,
Tobin McColl
On Wednesday March 26 students from grades 3-6 participated in the interschool athletics carnival. We had 37 students represent our school at the Domain Athletics Centre. All students should be extremely proud of their efforts, as a team we came second overall, with many of our athletes placing in their events. A big thank you to Miss P, Miss Rossiter, Mr Mills and Tara for supporting us at the event.

On Tuesday April 1 Herdsmans Cove held their Easter Dress up day. It was lovely to see so many students all dressed up in costumes, face paint, fancy hats and of course bunny ears. We received alot of donations towards our Easter Raffle. Prizes for best dressed in each class was awarded but it was extremely hard to decide because everyone looked fantastic.
We would like to say a very big thankyou to one of our wonderful parents Peta who got this event underway. As always Peta has gone over and above.

School Food Matters Hot Lunch Program
The School Food Matters Hot Lunch program this term has been a huge success. Students have enjoyed eating hot food weekly on a Wednesday. Because of this success the lunch program will be running two days next term. Hot lunches will be available to students on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.
A big thankyou to Linda G who is in charge of the lunch program. Every week Linda works hard with preparing, serving and delivering the hot lunches to all classrooms. Thankyou Linda!

In Grade 5/6 Dowling, students completed a Easter STEM Challenge. They had to build a boat from recycled materials such as foil, cardboard boxes, straws, paddle-pop sticks, plastic lids, masking tape and pegs. We then tested our designs to see if they floated and how many eggs they would hold without sinking.
Well done to Kaycee and Reese for winning the challenge.

In Lil our little learners had a fun time playing on the new Herdsmans Cove Lil Bus. The bus is parked in our Family Space and children of all ages have enjoyed going for a ride. There has been role playing, taking in turns and singing an old favourite "The Wheels On The Bus."

In English this term in 3/4 we have been reading the book ‘Feathers for Phoebe.’ It is the story of a little grey bird who just wants to be noticed. To try to achieve this she goes to the most popular beauty salon in the forest and Zelda gives her a complete makeover of bright, colourful feathers to help her be noticed. However, she still is not noticed. In the end she gets noticed for just being herself. Our class discovered that the moral of the story was that you don’t need to dress up or change yourself to be noticed. As part of our unit we created art pieces of what we thought Phoebe might look like when she added vibrant, fancy feathers on her crest, chest, wings and tail. All the students had a lot of fun creating their unique, bright art pieces, bringing Phoebe to life.

Over the past few weeks we've been topping up soil, planting vegetables and flowers, harvesting produce and doing a bunch of arts and crafts.
All garden classes have had a great time learning new skills and spending time out in the fresh air.
Arts and crafts activities are a great way to build fine motor skills. Students have worked independently and have worked together in groups.

In prep this term we have had a farm play space. Students have been working hard collecting eggs, milking the cow, and looking after all the animals. Students were asked to write and draw about their day as a farmer. Here are some of their responses.

The Child and Family Learning Centre is open everyday except Wednesdays from 9:00 am to 2:30pm. The centre can assist families to connect with local early learning activities. CFLC can help families by providing transport to Launching into Learning sessions and playgroups. The centre is ran by Family Engagement Workers that are located in the family space. They help to support families with children from birth to five years old to help them give their children a great start.
