Dear Families,
The year is fast drawing to a close with just over two weeks of the school term left. We are a hive of activity as the school prepares for the end of year celebrations and events.
Next Wednesday all students will be provided with a sumptuous Christmas lunch prepared and served by our wonderful Mrs Riley and her team of Grade 6 helpers, our up and coming chefs. Thank you Mrs Riley and our Grade 6 helpers!
Over the past few weeks teachers have been completing student assessments and writing reports. Kinder Portfolios will be sent home on Thursday 9 December and Prep – Grade 6 Reports will be sent home to parents on Monday 13 December along with class placements.
We are all looking forward to recognising and celebrating the achievements of our students at our Grade 6 Presentation Assembly next Thursday 9 December at the Civic Centre (4.00 pm - 6.00 pm), and at our Celebration Assemblies for ECE and Primary classes which will be held at school on Wednesday 15 December.
Again to comply with current health advice and physical distancing requirements only parents of recipients receiving an award will be invited to attend our Celebration assemblies. The ECE and Primary assemblies will be held across the morning at school to present individual class awards for the most outstanding and most improved students. The ECE (P/1, 1/2 R and 1/2 B) assembly will be held on Wednesday 15 December at 9:15 to 10:00 and the Primary Assembly ( 3/4 P, 3/4 M, 5/6 L and 5/6 V will be held on Wednesday 15 December. I will be contacting parents this week to invite them to attend and let them know if their child is a receiving an award.
Of course our Grade 6 students are approaching their last days at Herdsmans Cove Primary School. They're all trying their best to remain settled at school and looking forward to participating in their celebration day on Monday 13 December. Keep up the good work until the very last day, we know you can do it!
Our final whole school event for the year will be an excursion to New Norfolk Swimming Pool on Tuesday 14 December. A notice will be going home with students today, including a permission form to our Prep-Grade 2 and Grade 6 students, that must be completed to enable your child to participate or they will not be able to attend on the day. A copy of the letter is provided within this newsletter.
Carolyn Brown, Principal
Debra Bellette Memorial Library
On Thursday afternoon we had a special celebration to honour the passing of our much loved work colleage, Debra Bellette. Deb absolutely loved books and working in the library, creating displays, covering books and truly embracing the Herdsmans Cove Book Parade every year. It was an honour to share with Deb's family the renaming of our Library to the Debra Bellette Memorial Library. A plaque and photo have been permanently placed on the library wall. A memorial book prize in honour of Deb will also be awarded to a student at the end of each year, to someone that always borrows and returns their books on time, and shows respect and kindness in our library.
Here is a sample of photos taken on Thursday afternoon. Thank you to Sue and Linda for organising this special afternoon tea, and to Bruce, Melissa and Daniel for coming along to commemorate the life of Deb.
Our Kindergarten students are getting ready for the end of their first year at school, and what a wonderful year it has been!
Mrs McShane and her merry helpers are busy with Christmas craft and making a special portfolio for each student to take home at the end of the year. Please remember that the last day for Kindergarten students is Thursday 9 December. Here is a sample of our mock Kinder graduation photos.
Last Thursday morning we welcomed officers Bailey and Fordham from Tasmania Police to talk about cyber safety and how to be safe when surfing the internet and using social media platforms. Students from our 3/4 and 5/6 classes enjoyed the sessions. Thank you to Tasmania Police for visiting our school.
A letter is going home this week providing information for our end of year Celebration Day to New Norfolk pool on Tuesday 14 December. Swimming permission forms are being sent home with students in Prep - Grades 2 and 6 and will need to be returned to school at your earliest convenience. If your child does not return their form they will be unable to attend on the day.
