Dear Families
World Teachers' Day is celebrated in more than 100 countries world-wide and in Australia this year World Teachers' Day was celebrated on the 29 October. In our Assembly last Friday, we acknowledged the wonderful work of our teachers and thanked them for the significant contributions they make in our classrooms and community.
Next Tuesday 9 November selected Grade 3 to 6 students will participate in the SPSSA Swimming Carnival. We are looking forward to hearing about their participation in the event. Congratulations to the following students who have been selected for the event:
Bailey W., Zoi, Shyne, Zavier, Jaylah, Khynan, Triannah, Maddison, Kaidyn, Harper, Chaice, Isabella, Indy, Hannah, Annalise, Naite, Summer, Ryan, Ruby and Kyeisha.
You are already winners in our eyes! Good luck to all our competitors.
In our last Newsletter I shared with you our proposed draft class structures for 2022:
Our proposed class structures for 2022 are:
Kinder (1 class), Prep/1 (1 class), 1/2 (1 class), 2/3 (1 class) 4/5 (1 class) and 5/6 (1 class).
Teachers have started working on class placements for next year. Our goal is to come up with a placement for each child that will offer that child the greatest chance of success. Teachers give consideration to the following factors when placing students in a class:
- The child’s intellectual, social, emotional, and behavioural developmental levels and needs
- The child’s interactions with other students
- The “social dynamic” factors within the class
- The male/female balance in each class
- The balance of leaders in each class
- Student friendships
We do our very best to accommodate parent requests and whilst we value your opinion and your request there is no guarantee that your child will be placed where you have requested.
If you have any concerns in regard to your child/children’s placement for next year, please contact me before next Monday 8 November. Please note that we will be unable to accept any suggestions beyond this date.

In 5/6 V we have been working on the text structure of poetry, analysing how authors have written their poem and then we have had a go at creating our own, using their structures. The poems students have created have been well thought out and presented. They should be very proud of their efforts. We shared some of our poems in last week's assembly.
Swimming Splash Carnival - Wednesday 20 October
Hello to our amazing community,
Last Wednesday we held our SPLASH carnival for grades 3-6. The weather gods were smiling upon us with clear skies and sunshine starting off our day. We kicked off our carnival with the 25m freestyle, participation was at an all time high with seas of blue, red and green cheering from the grand stands. Throughout the day we saw many highlights including a flying archer, a wet and soggy duck and what I like to term the swimming brick. However, all of the events were a lot of fun. We finished our carnival with the house and staff relay. What was clear to us is that Miss Lovell and Mr Vandermey, or as we call them the swim twins, should be proud to have won the event by the length of the river Nile (also noted was that Blue’s effort was hindered when Khynan swam circles in a straight laned pool).
After the swimming was done our students enjoyed a well deserved play, with many opting for the death defying water slide. I can honestly say I have never seen so many students hit flat water at such pace. Thank goodness there was still some water left after they were finished with it. Then it was time to sound out our champions for the day. In a massive turn of events Green, our athletics and cross country champions came in third on 191 points, in second was Red on 211 points and our amazing winners the Blue house took out our carnival on 231 points.
We would like to thank the awesome staff that attended and helped out on the day as well as the Glenorchy Pool and their staff for taking care of us all day. Congratulations also goes to the following students for being crowned our swimming champions:
Grade 3 Champions: Hannah and Naite
Grade 4 Champions: Harper and Kaidyn
Grade 5 champions: Jaylah, Zavier and Khynan
Grade 6 champions: Ruby and Bailey W

Celebrating Halloween - Jack-o-Lantern
The Gagebrook Community Centre donated some pumpkins to our school for Halloween. Chris and a group of students turned the pumpkins into Jack-o-Lanterns which were donated to the Spring Festival. The children had a great time designing and creating the pumpkins, check out the photos below.
Parents and Friends are raising funds for our school literacy program and offering 2022 calendars to families at a cost of $5.00 per calendar. These calendars will make a great Christmas gift. Order forms will be sent home within the next week. Individual or family photos will be available to order.
As a result of the recent ASIC review and further Government decisions the Commonwealth Bank is unable to contiue providing the School Banking program in schools beyond 2021.
Our school will continue to run the program through to December 2021.
