Dear Families and Friends of Herdsmans Cove Primary,
What a fantastic week it has been at our school! There’s been a real buzz of energy across our community, and I’m thrilled to share some of the highlights with you.
Assembly Magic
Our recent assembly was a true celebration of student talent and teamwork. A special shout-out to 3/4A for their outstanding performance—what a show! The dance item was a particular highlight, and it was heartwarming to see the joy and pride on the faces of students, families, and staff alike. Huge thanks to Mrs Addison and the TA team for their creativity and dedication in bringing it all together.
The Sandpit is Back!
It’s been wonderful to see our students rediscover the joys of imaginative play in the sandpit. Whether building castles or digging tunnels, the laughter and collaboration have been a joy to witness.
Futsal Fever
A big thank you to Mr McColl for his incredible support and leadership in organizing and providing the opportunity for our students to participate in the primary schools Futsal competition at Goodwood. Congratulations to all our players for their sportsmanship and effort—and a massive well done to Kyden, Jett, and Shayla, who have been selected to represent Tasmania at the national carnival in Queensland this September. What an achievement!
Walk to School Day
It was fantastic to see so many staff members out in the community supporting Walk to School Day. Your presence made a big difference, and it was a great way to promote healthy habits and community spirit.
Plan your Play!
It’s been great to see students actively engaged in supported play, building skills and friendships along the way. Breaktimes are an opportunity to recharge, connect, and have fun! That’s why we’re encouraging all students to “Plan Your Play” each day.
With so many exciting options available, there’s something for everyone:
- New sports gear is now available—perfect for games on the court or oval.
- Soccer on the oval continues to be a favourite, with plenty of space for everyone to join in.
- The sandpit is open and buzzing with creativity—dig, build, and explore!
- Court games like four square and basketball are a great way to stay active and social.
- Swings and play equipment offer fun and movement for all ages.
- And for those who prefer a quieter space, the library is open during breaks for reading, drawing, or relaxing with friends.
We encourage students to think ahead about how they’d like to spend their break times and try something new. Whether it’s joining a game, building in the sandpit, or enjoying a book, there’s always a way to make playtime meaningful and fun.
Let’s keep our playgrounds active, inclusive, and full of joy!
Thank you all for your continued support and involvement in our school community. Let’s keep the momentum going as we head into another exciting week!
Warm regards,
Nathan Mills

National Simultaneous Storytime was held on Wednesday 21st May. This is an annual event that brings students together to read one story at the same time all over Australia. This years book was The Truck Cat written by Deborah Frenkel and illustrated by Danny Snell.
The Truck Cat was read together in classrooms, the garden and our new sand pit. Herdsmans Cove Primary was just one of 16,000 locations where the book was read.

Last week a group of Herdsmans Cove students participated in the School Futsal Titles held at the Goodwood Futsal Centre. All students had a fantastic time. They showed courage and great sportsmanship throughout all their games.

Congratulations to Shayla, Kyden and Jett who were selected to compete in the National School Futsal Championship held in Brisbane in September this year.
5/6R were lucky to have Mickey come in and cook pizza scrolls and loaded Nutella cookies! Everyone got involved (especially with the official taste testing). It was a great reward for all of 5/6R's hard work so far this term.

Our Thursday morning baby group commenced last week, and we had such a lovely time exploring different textures and making connections with new friends. If you have a little one under 2 years old, feel free to join us from 10-11:30 Thursday mornings for morning tea and casual chat. No cost or bookings required just turn up!

Over the next 4 weeks, our 3-6 students will be participating in some basketball sessions with Gavin. The students will be learning some new skills each week and finish with a basketball game in the final session.
After the first session yesterday Slayter from 3/4P said ‘it was the best fun he’s ever had!’
I can’t wait to see the improvement over the next few weeks.

In 3/4 Addison students have been working hard every morning participating in UFLI lessons.
UFLI is a literacy program that focuses on different sounds, spelling and writing techniques.
Some of the students from 3/4 Addison were very excited to share their work.

Recently at Herdsmans Cove we have had new signage fitted around the school. The signage is of our school values.
