Welcome to Term 1, 2025!
Welcome back to another exciting school year! It has been fantastic to see our students in uniform, engaged in their learning, and ready for the year ahead.
Staffing Changes
At the end of Term 4, some unexpected staffing changes took place. Emily Roberts was successful in securing the Principal role at Sandy Bay Infant School, and Janina has moved to Campania District School for Term 1. We wish them both all the best in their new roles.
We are delighted to welcome the following new staff members:
- Cath Burgess – Assistant Principal (K-2)
- Nathan Mills – Assistant Principal (3-6)
- Caitlin Hamilton – AST (3-6 Support)
- Kimberley Peebles – Year 3/4 Teacher
- Sarsha Addison – Year 3/4 Teacher
- Madison Smith – Resource Teacher (K-2)
- Lily Barwick – Resource Teacher (3-6)
Important Reminders
No Electric Scooters at School
Electric scooters can reach very high speeds and pose safety risks in our busy school environment. For those riding bicycles or non-electric scooters to school, helmets must be worn at all times.
Validation Forms – Week 4
In Week 4, we will be inviting families to complete student validation forms. A coffee van will be onsite offering complimentary drinks, and plenty of staff will be available to assist. Please note that students will not be able to participate in any excursions (including futsal) until their validation forms are completed.
Wheelchair Access Car Park
A new wheelchair-accessible parking bay and ramp have been installed to improve accessibility to our school grounds. Please refrain from parking in this designated space to ensure it remains available for those who need it.
Thank you for your cooperation and support as we start the new school year. We look forward to another fantastic term ahead!
Herdsmans Cove Primary School
Warm regards,
Tobin McColl
On Thursday 27th February Ally's Hotshots coffee van will be at school. Whilst enjoying a hot coffee staff will be available to assist with any queries or questions parents may have regarding validation forms. Replacement forms will be available if originals have been misplaced.
Important reminder to families that validation forms need to be returned to the office as soon as possible if they haven't already been returned.
These validation forms enable for all contact details to be recorded correctly.
Validation forms are highly important as they include photo release and excursion permissions. If these permissions are not returned students will unfortunately not be able to go on excursions or have their photos and work displayed in newsletters and on our social media pages.
A message from Mr Nathan Mills
Personally, it has been an exciting start to the year with the opportunity join the Herdsmans Cove Primary School Community. I have enjoyed connecting with staff, students and families over the first 2 weeks of the school year and look forward to building on these connections over the coming months. I have arrived at Herdmans Cove after having spent the last 13 and a bit years at Dodges Ferry Primary, where I was fortunate enough to work as part of the leadership team for the last 7 years.
Outside of school I am a busy Dad, chasing after my children and supporting them in their pursuits.
I am really looking forward to contributing to the great work that is being done at Herdsmans Cove and striving for every student to be Known, Well, Safe and Learning. It has been amazing to witness the care and support that staff show our students every day to prepare and engage them for learning. Mr Mills.
The school lunch program has started for this term. The program provides hot lunch to all students on Wednesdays of every week. To participate in this program permission forms are required to be signed. New forms are being sent home for students that haven't returned their forms. There is an allergy form that can be collected from the office also.
This year we have welcomed twenty kindergarten students and their families into our school community. So far, we have enjoyed playing in the zoo, painting, riding bikes, waterplay and searching for insects in the playground.

In Art lessons students have been learning about the art topic of contrast. As part of this students created city landscapes where they placed the silhouette of city buildings against a contrasting blue background. To add more depth, they then added yellow windows and silver star shapes on the dark sky and buildings. An example of the students finished art works can be seen below.
