Dear HCPS Families,
As we approach the end of another exciting year at Herdsmans Cove Primary School, we are excited to bring you some important updates and announcements.
Rewards Excursion on Friday, 8 December
We are pleased to inform you that next Friday we have a rewards excursion planned for students who have consistently met our learning and behaviour expectations. Students can choose between a fantastic movie and pizza afternoon right here at school or to participate in a futsal competition at the Goodwood Futsal Centre. Keep an eye out for an upcoming letter with detailed information and an invitation for your child to attend.
Class Structures for 2024:
We are excited to announce our class structures for the upcoming academic year. In 2024, we will have the following classes:
Kinder
Prep
Two Year 1/2 classes
3/4 class
3/4/5 class
Two 5/6 classes
We believe these class structures will enhance the learning experience for our students and provide a supportive environment for their growth.
Teacher Transfers:
At this time of the year, teacher transfers for 2024 are being finalised. We bid a fond farewell to Ms Georgie Field and Ms Amberley Jones, thanking them for their dedication, professionalism and care they have shown over their many years of service to our community. We know that you, like us, will be sad to see them go and wish them all the best in 2024 and beyond.
I would also like to acknowledge at this time, that after many years of wonderful service to our school community, Mrs Riley has announced her retirement and will not be returning to school next year. We all know that Mrs Riley is one of a kind and will be sadly missed. We wish her a very restful and well-deserved retirement.
On a positive note, we welcome the following teachers who will be transferring to Herdsmans Cove - Ms Kendra Dowling, Ms Bec Murray, and Ms Tracey Parnham. We look forward to their contributions to our school community.
Reminder - End-of-Year Assemblies:
Thursday, December 14 - Performance Assembly, including class awards for Prep-Grade 6, will be held at school at 10:00 a.m.

Tobin McColl, Principal
Remembrance Day Artwork - 5/6 Students
Our Grade 5/6 classes reflected on the meaning of Remembrance Day and thoughtfully created some stunning artwork.
Grade 2/3 Excursion - Magic Show
On Monday 20 November Miss Levett's 2/3 class attended a magic show at the Grand Chancellor, The World Festival of Magic. Tickets were kindly donated by Rotary Australia.
A highlight of the show was when Sylah was invited up on stage to take part in a special magic trick. I'm sure he will remember that for years to come.
Students had a wonderful time and enjoyed the special day out.
On Wednesday 15 November, our Kindergarten and Launching into Learning classes attended an experience at The Longhouse Gallery; learning about and celebrating Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures.
We observed artwork that featured in the book We Love Country, got to play with native animal puppets, and got creative making our Screech and Scratch cockatoo masks. Thankyou to Ms Field for liasing with the DECYP early years team and making this excursion possible!
For the next few weeks students will be looking at Aboriginal symbols and petroglyphs.
We are mixing ochre and white paint together for students to paint some symbols and petroglyphs. We are also making our own stories using mainland symbols while introducing petroglyphs and learning the significance of ochre and how/why it was used and what each colour represents.
