Greetings to our wonderful school community,
I hope this newsletter finds you in great spirits. Last week was a whirlwind of literary excitement as we celebrated Book Week with great enthusiasm. Our students dove into the magic of storytelling, making bookmarks that now adorn the pages of their chosen tales. Witnessing their enthusiasm for reading for pleasure was truly heart-warming.
The pinnacle of the week was our spectacular Book Week parade. Our young bookworms transformed into characters from their favourite stories, parading with exuberance and creativity that left us all in awe. From swashbuckling pirates to whimsical wizards, the costumes were a testament to both their imagination and our vibrant literary culture.
Thank you families for all your effort.
On a safety note, as our students gear up for school, let's remember the importance of wearing helmets while riding bikes and scooters. It's a simple act that can protect our precious ones and set a positive example for their peers. I’m asking that unless a helmet is worn, not to ride bikes or scooters.
In staffing news, I extend a warm welcome to Mr Jacob Howard, who will be joining our leadership team as he and Ms Kitto both won AST positions with us recently. Mr Howard will be starting Monday, September 4. Additionally, we're excited to have Ms Mel McGuiness with us on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Thank you for your ongoing support, and let's embrace the coming weeks with the same spirit of enthusiasm and safety consciousness.
Warm regards,
Tobin McColl, A/Principal
Our annual Book Week parade was once again a huge success. It was wonderful to see so many students wearing costumes. There certainly were some creative outfits.
Thank you to our judges Miss Lovell and Mrs McShane who both had a very hard time trying to decide on the overall winners.
Congratulations to the following students for taking out our best dressed prizes:
Khaleesi, Charli, Shelby, Will, Jorja, Lylah, Stella, Asha, Lilly, Zilah, Annalise, Zahley, Summer, Kay and Marianne.
Photos of the parade are shared below.
It was also great to see our staff dress up for the occasion. Special mention to Miss Lovell our amazing judge for dressing up as Charizard and to our winning teacher Miss Street who came dressed as a lion from.........
Our kinder class had their very own special parade in the GP room on Wednesday 23 August with parents invited to attend.
On Thursday morning Grade 5/6W and 5/6L joined classes for an art lesson. The students inspiration for their artwork came from 'Sunflowers' by the Dutch artist Van Gogh.
The classes thoroughly enjoyed creating art and had a fantastic time.
Here are some photos of their beautfiul artwork. Well done 5/6!
Australian Teacher Aide Appreciation Week is being celebrated across Australia this week. It is the perfect time to celebrate the wonderful work teacher aides do in our schools.
We celebrated with a special morning tea on Wednesday 30 August. We appreciate and recognise the positive impact teacher aides have on the lives of our students, teachers and families.
Throughout Term 3 Kinder Students and 5/6W students have been meeting each Tuesday as part of our buddies program. The Kinder students are always so excited to learn alongside their big buddies and we are so proud of the kindness, patience and leadership the 5/6W students show when working with our youngest learners.
"School of the Year" - 7HOFM Radio Competition
7HOFM is on the search for Hobart’s School of the Year and Herdsmans Cove Primary School has been nominated!
One lucky Primary school is going to receive a huge cash injection of $10,000 to spend on improving its facilities for the amazing students and teachers. Whether it be building a new basketball court, getting new musical instruments, or purchasing new science equipment… the sky is the limit!
Get creative and engage with your community. Each person can vote once per day! Don’t forget to tag 7HOFM across your social media so we can share the love!
After the public vote closes, the winning school will be decided by representatives of the station based on the number of votes their school received, how creatively they planned to spend the prize money, and how much enthusiasm the school displayed throughout the campaign.
Come on everyone let's get voting and support our school.
Information to Parents - Spacetalk Starting Soon
We are excited to be introducing a new text messaging communication system at Herdsmans Cove going live in the 4th term.
It would be greatly appreciated if you could make contact with the office if your mobile number has recently changed, so we can update our records.
The new system will generate SMS messages to parents regarding their child's absence, reducing the amount of calls made by the office.
A letter will be sent home providing more information to parents in the coming weeks.
Southern School Sports Day - Netball
On Wednesday 22 August, Heidi, Summer-Rose, Zilah, Scarlett and Harper represented Herdsmans Cove at the SPSSA Netball Carnival at Creek Road. The girls played 6 games of netball on the day, they showed great skills and sportsmanship through the day.
Summer-Rose was awarded Most Outstanding player of the Team.
Well done girls on representing our school in such a positive manner.
REMEMBER from the of 1st September till the end of April to have your hat at school every day. You will need to wear it when you are outside.
DoE Sun Protection Policy
This policy aims to ensure staff, students and children maintain a healthy UV balance all year round. Being SunSmart in Tasmania means using sun protection when UV levels reach 3 and above, this occurs from September to April. This means implementing sun protection measures form the beginning of the school year until the end of April and again from the beginning of September until the end of the school year.
School Photo Day - Monday 18 September
All sibling photos are taken before school from 8.30 a.m. in the G.P. room and a sibling order form will be given to the siblings by our photographer once the family photo has been taken. The school office will no longer distribute sibling order forms.
Individual on-line ordering information has been sent home with students this week.
