Dear Herdsmans Cove Community,
Get ready to embark on a literary adventure like no other, as we gear up for the upcoming Book Week, happening next week! We're thrilled to announce this year's theme: "Read, Grow, Inspire." With a line-up of engaging activities and events, we're certain that this year's Book Week will be one for the books!
All week: Book Fair: Where Dreams Take Flight
And that's not all! We're excited to announce that our annual Book Fair will be running throughout this week and the next. Get ready to explore a wide selection of captivating reads for all ages. The Book Fair will be open from 8:30 AM to 9:00 AM and again from 2:40 PM to 3:00 PM every day. Don't miss this opportunity to discover new adventures and bring home some literary treasures.
Tuesday: Design a Bookmark. Unleash Your Creativity!
Calling all young artists and book lovers! This year, we're kicking off Book Week with a fantastic design-a-bookmark competition. Encourage your children to let their imagination run wild as they create their own unique bookmarks.
Wednesday: Cozy Up with a Good Book at Home
There's nothing quite like snuggling up with your little ones and getting lost in the pages of a captivating story. During Book Week, we encourage families to spend quality time together by reading their favourite books at home. Whether it's a classic fairy tale or an exciting adventure, sharing stories with your children is a wonderful way to bond and inspire a love for reading.
Thursday: Book Buddies. Share the Magic of Reading
One of the highlights of Book Week is our Book Buddies program. Older students will have the opportunity to pair up with younger peers to read together. This not only promotes literacy but also fosters a sense of community and mentorship within our school. Watching the joy on younger faces as they listen to captivating tales is a heart-warming experience for everyone involved.
Friday: Book Week Parade. Characters Come to Life!
Mark your calendars for the grand finale of Book Week – the highly anticipated Book Week Parade! On Friday, at 9:15 AM, join us on the basketball court for a spectacular showcase of creativity and imagination. Students from Prep to Year 6 will come dressed as characters from their favourite books, transforming our school into a living library of beloved literary figures. Parents and guardians, you're invited to witness the magic unfold!
Let's make this Book Week an unforgettable experience for our children, filled with inspiration, learning, and the magic of storytelling.

Prep/1 - Celebrating 100 Days of School
100 days brighter.
We have been at school learning for over 100 days this year. To celebrate this achievement, Prep/1 dressed up as if we were 100 years old. We had such a fun day celebrating our achievements. Here are a few things we have learnt in our 100 days……
Dante “I have been learning to read”.
Khaleesi “I have been practicing numbers”.
Lylah “I have been learning to read and use letter sounds”
Thank you to all the families that put in an incredible effort with costumes. Everyone looked amazing.
Our Scholastic Book Fair is underway and will run through to Friday 25 August.
Books are on display and available to purchase from the Teacher Learning Room. Opening hours are Monday to Friday, 8.30 a.m. - 9.00 a.m. and 2.40 p.m. - 3.00 p.m.
Next Friday 25 August we will be having our book week parade. Our Lil group and students in Prep-Grade 6 are invited to come to school dressed as their favourite book character. This year students will parade around the basketball court from 9.15 a.m. (weather permitting). All families are invited to attend.
On Wednesday Prep/1 students read the book "The Echidna and the Shade Tree" with Natalie. While watching Little J and Big Cuz students made their own echidnas using clay and toothpicks.
Prep/1 also got to have fun afterwards feeling the Wallaby skin, playing the clapsticks, playing with the I Love Country Memory Cards and learning about Kelp Baskets.

Congratulations to our students that have been chosen to represent our school at the upcoming Winter Sports Carnivals.
Well done Scarlett, Heidi, Harper, Summer and Zilah for being chosen in the Southern Gold Netball team and to Kaidyn H. for making the Derwent Saints football team. We would also like to congratulate Elle, Braxton, KK, Blake and Ashton for representing us in soccer.
Thank you and well done to everyone that tried out.
The carnivals are being held next Tuesday 22 August. We wish everyone the best of luck.
