We may often let our minds wander to consider the experiences of times before us, magical events, and possibilities of the future.
Each year, Book Week is celebrated throughout schools and public libraries across Australia. The week sets out to highlight incredible authors and illustrators, bringing light to the magic that is reading stories.
Last Friday as part of Book Week activities we hosted our annual Book Parade where the magic of books and stories came to life as students and staff dressed as their favourite characters from favourite books. Familiar books and stories came to life, and we were transported to faraway places through the amazing costumes on parade. There were princesses, pirates, superheroes, fairies and fluffy animals. We thank our wonderful parents for going the extra mile to assist with the costumes and support participation as well as supporting our Book Fair.
We are always looking for opportunities for our students to shine and this week some of our students shone whilst participating in the SPSSA Winter Sports carnivals. Through the wonderful support of parents and staff, yesterday the following students participated in the carnivals - congratulations to Blake, Zayne, Lilly, Bailey M, Bailey W, Zarron, Emma, Ruby, Jaylah and Sebastion for shining brightly for our school in soccer, and to Tarnie, Sh'kylah, Jazhara and Ayesha for reaching for the stars in netball.
Carolyn Brown, Principal
Last Friday students from Prep through to Grade 6 enjoyed our Book Parade assembly. It was wonderful to see so many students dress up as their favourite book character and be a part of the parade. Thank you to parents and carers for getting your child prepared for the day.
Our teachers once again, excelled with their costumes, ranging from a giraffe, penguin, elephant, fish and even a quoll.
The judges found it very difficult to choose the winners as there were so many outstanding costume designs.
Congratulations to Kobee, Rubi, Karli, Charlotte, Jorja, Stella, Jett, Summer, Leilani, KK, Dustyn, Ayesha, Zoi and Lilly. Stella and Kobee were chosen as our overall winners, by our guest canteen judge, Catherine.
Once again this year, the most amazing and creative costume design went to Miss Lovell for her giraffe outfit, closely followed by Miss Street for dressing up as Elmer the Elephant.
Miss Balhatchet's 1/2 class visited Bonorong Park recently. Take a look at the beautiful work the children have been doing in class on native animals.
SPSSA Netball & Soccer Representatives
Congratulations to Tarnie, 'Kylah, Jazhara and Ayesha for being chosen in the SPSSA Southern School Netball representative team. The girls have been training with Ms Burn for the past few weeks and played in a carnival held yesterday.
Congratulations to our SPSSA Soccer representatives that also played in the Winter Carnival yesterday. Well played Lilly, Zarron, Zayne Bailey M, Emma, Blake, Sebastion, Jaylah, Bailey W. and Ruby. Special mention to Blake for winning a sportsmanship award - well done Blake! A special thank you to Mr V for coaching and supporting the team over the past few weeks.
We had a special visit to our school last week from Mr M., a teacher at St Virgil's College. They have kindly donated a bag full of football boots to our school for our soccer and futsal players. The boots came from St Virgil's students that no longer needed their boots. Thank you so much to Mr M. and the St Virgil's community.
For the past three weeks we have had a group of students taking part in SSPSA selection trials after school. These boots have come in very handy for our players. A special thank you to Miss Lovell, Mr V. and Chris for assisting our students through this process.
For the past two weeks a combined group of Children's University and dance students have been getting together after school to take part in fun yoga lessons with our school nurse, Georgina. Thank you so much for taking the time out to run the classes, Georgina.
