Dear Families,
Last week was a week filled with reflection, where we thought about those whom have contributed to the shaping of our beautiful and diverse country. We reflected on the contribution of our nation’s first people during NAIDOC week celebrations and on Wednesday 11 November (Remembrance Day), we remembered all those who had given their lives in battle. Sophie C and Ayesha P did an amazing job leading the Remembrance Day presentation.
We have also been reflecting upon what we have achieved this year against our school improvement priorities around literacy and numeracy, student wellbeing and engaging children in inquiry learning in the early years. I am really proud of what we have been able to achieve given the challenges of this year. We embraced different ways of engaging you and your child with teaching and learning and we have discovered new ways of undertaking online professional learning.
Our Grade 6 students are all look forwarding to their end of year celebrations including the Grade 6 Presentation Assembly at the Civic Centre on Thursday 10 December commencing at 4.00 pm and their Big Day Out on Monday 14 December. A letter will be sent home this week providing more information about these events.
It is important that our grade 6 students continue to stay focussed on being the best they can be as leaders in our school. These special events will be by invitation only and it is expected that our Grade 6 students continue to uphold our values and demonstrate respectful behaviour including following our dress code (no make-up or brightly coloured hair) and wearing our school uniform with pride. Acceptable uniform includes - leavers top, school rugby-top/polo top and appropriate plain navy blue shorts, leggings or trousers. Please remind your child to keep trying really hard and remain focussed on finishing the year in a positive way.
With borders re-opening there is no room for complacency and I ask that you maintain your physical distancing when on the school grounds after school. This is important, not only as part of our covid safety plan, but also a general sense in our community that we still need to be careful.
I would like to share with you a beautiful Remembrance Day poem that the girls shared with the school on Remembrance Day and again in our school assembly on Friday.
