Hi Everyone,

                             Welcome to the Herdsmans Cove Primary School’s Literacy update. This year in Literacy we continue to have a focus on Writing.  Writing is one of the building blocks for Literacy alongside Reading and if you are concerned about your child's learning please feel free to make a time to see their teacher or myself.

          Herdsmans Cove will continue to share student’s learning in Literacy through our Facebook page, an achievement wall, newsletter articles and in our assemblies. Simply by following our page or reading our articles you can pick up some great tips on how to further your child’s learning at home.

          When children write at school we focus on their handwriting, their grammar and their punctuation.  So far this term we have had a strong focus on the question what is a sentence and how do we write different sentences?  We have seen some fantastic work in the early years looking at simple sentences and noun groups, which will support the work our older students are completing on complex sentences and having purpose in their writing.

          Reading is always a huge part of our Literacy program and our annual Book Week is coming up from the 16 - 18 September.  As part of this event we are having our amazing book week parade where your child can dress up as their favourite character from their favourite book.  Our staff here are looking forward to the challenge of dressing up and winning the best dressed prize.
